Compression Therapy

28166360 181010655845939 5270126403665963541 n Compression TherapyIntermittent pneumatic compression is a therapeutic technique used in the Rapid Reboot system that include an air pump and inflatable boots in a system designed to improve venous circulation in the limbs of individuals who are looking to improve muscle recovery from strenuous training, postoperative recovery, decrease symptoms of lymphedema, reduce swelling, and improve flexibility.

How Does It Work?

The inflatable boots encloses the legs and feet and are connected through pressure lines to the air pump. When activated, the pump fills the air chambers of the boots in order to pressurize the tissues in the limb, thereby mobilizing fluids, such as blood and lymph, out of the pressurized area. A short time later, the pressure is reduced, allowing increased blood flow back into the limb. This process speeds up your body’s natural healing process by filtering lactic acid, metabolites, and other debri build up out of your blood after exercise-induced trauma.

What are the benefits?

Intermittent pneumatic compression is a proven method to improve blood circulation and drive higher amounts of healthy, oxygen-rich blood to your muscles as they repair themselves after exercise. This process significantly reduces the time that it takes for your muscles to recover so that you can get back to training faster. Research has shown that dynamic compression treatment decreases DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), reduces swelling and inflammation, improves protein absorption, increases range of motion, and over time enhances muscle performance.

Who Can Benefit?

COAST Rehab’s Rapid Reboot compression therapy is ideal for post-workout recovery or for injured individuals with residual swelling in their extremity. While compression therapy is safe to use for a variety of medical conditions, please consult your doctor before using if you know or suspect you may have the following: deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (blood clot) or edema, thrombophlebitis, cellulitis or inflammation of the skin, ischemic vascular disease, severe peripheral neuropathy, or related issues or complications. For more information, Contact Us today at Brielle, Sea Girt, Manasquan & Toms River, NJ Centers.
